What is an elevator door lock?

elevator door lock is a critical component of the elevator safety system, responsible for securing both the elevator car door and the landing door. It ensures that the doors remain closed while the elevator is in operation, preventing passengers or objects from accidentally falling out. This function is essential for the safety of elevator users.

The main components of the elevator door locks include the locking hook, locking pawl, applying force element, elevator door lock rollers and unlocking wheels, unlocking cam, electrical safety contacts, and triangle key lock. These parts work together to ensure the safe locking and smooth opening of the elevator doors.

Lock Hook and Lock Catch: These two components work together to secure the door lock, preventing the door from being opened. The locking hook and locking pawl must have sufficient engagement depth (at least 7mm) and withstand a force of at least 1000N to ensure that the door does not accidentally open during normal operation.

Applying Force Element: This component is used to automatically reset the lock after it has been unlocked, functioning as the door lock’s resetting mechanism. Even if the applying force element fails, gravity should not be able to open the lock, ensuring that the elevator door remains securely locked after it is closed.

Elevator Roller and Unlocking Cam: These parts are used during the unlocking process. When the elevator reaches the designated floor, the door motor, through a series of mechanical transmissions, ultimately drives the roller and unlocking cam via the door vane, thereby opening the door lock and allowing the doors to open smoothly.

Elevator Electrical Safety Door Contacts: These contacts are used to verify whether the locking hook and locking pawl have engaged to the specified depth (over 7mm). If the electrical safety contact is disengaged, the elevator will stop operating, ensuring that the elevator will not start unless the doors are fully locked.

Elevator Triangle Key Lock: This is an emergency unlocking tool used in abnormal situations, typically located on the landing door and shaped like a triangle. This tool should not be used by non-professionals to maintain the safety of the elevator door lock.
