Elevator contactors are types of automatic control electrical device that control the start and stop of motors by switching large currents. They typically consist of solid-state contacts and an electromagnetic coil. In elevators, elevator contactors are commonly used to control the start and stop of motors, facilitating the operation and halting of the elevator. They are categorized into AC contactors (voltage AC) and DC contactors (voltage DC).

How does the elevator contact work?

In elevators, a contactor achieves the start and stop of the elevator by controlling the closing and opening of the motor circuit. The electromagnetic coil of the contactor is usually connected to a low voltage circuit. When the elevator needs to start, the low voltage circuit increases the current to the electromagnetic coil, causing the contactor contacts to close, and the motor starts, initiating the elevator’s movement. When the elevator reaches the target floor, the low voltage circuit decreases the current to the electromagnetic coil, causing the contacts to open, stopping the motor, and halting the elevator.

Advantages of Contactors

Contactors have the following advantages:

  1. Strong Control Capability: Contactors can typically control motors with high power, making them suitable for applications requiring the control of large currents.
  2. Long Lifespan: Contactors generally have good durability and reliability, capable of withstanding prolonged use, reducing replacement costs and maintenance time.
  3. Safety in Use: Contactors play a significant role in the circuit’s safety protection, effectively preventing circuit short circuits and overloads.

Application Range of Contactors

Contactors are widely used in the control field of motors and equipment and are an indispensable part of control circuits. In elevators, due to the frequent starting and stopping requirements, contactors are extensively used in elevator control systems, playing a crucial role.

How to Choose an Elevator Contactor

Choosing an elevator contactors requires considering the following aspects:

  1. Elevator Load: Select an appropriate contactor based on the load characteristics of the elevator.
  2. Circuit Current: Choose the appropriate circuit current to match the rated current of the contactor.
  3. Safety: The contactor should have good safety performance to ensure the safe operation of the elevator.

Maintenance of Contactors

The maintenance of contactors is a critical aspect of elevator operation. Regular inspections of the contactor’s working condition and electrical performance are necessary to ensure the contactor functions properly and to guarantee the safe operation of the elevator.

Conclusion

In elevators, contactors are a crucial control component, responsible for controlling the start and stop of motors, and thus, the operation and halting of the elevator. Selecting suitable contactors and performing regular maintenance is essential for the safe and stable operation of elevators.
